This opportunity is intended as a structured development runway for early career artists (see NAVA website with ideas for outdoor or other placemaking projects).This opportunity is not for production, it is for thorough planning towards realising a new work.
The intent is that artists are mentored through a process of developing all aspects of a project: concept, creative rationale, technical viability, materials, construction, site identification, future partners and funders, budget and timeline.
Funding is $5,000 for the mentored artist's time plus $500 for their research or materials.
RAV will work with the successful applicants to identify a suitable mentor but applicants are also encouraged to suggest their ideas. The mentor will be paid separately.
To be eligible, you must:
- Work as an individual artist or part of a group. The fee and materials will not be increased for groups.
- Live in Gippsland. You must be a resident of one of the six Gippsland local government areas: Bass Coast, Baw Baw, East Gippsland, Latrobe, South Gippsland or Wellington.
- Be an early career artist - see NAVA website description of early career artists.
- Be 18 years or older at the time of application, or supported by a parent/guardian or auspicing adult or organisation. An auspicing person or organisation must holds an active ABN and can enter the participation agreement on your behalf.
- Hold an ABN, or be able to be paid through an auspicing arrangement.
- Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident, or hold a visa with work rights covering the program period.
- Be available for the full program period (approximately November 2026 to May 2027). This will include 2 group catch-ups with all mentees and 4-5 one-on-one sessions with a mentor sessions.
- Have no outstanding reports, acquittals or serious breaches relating to grants managed by Regional Arts Victoria
